Dementia home care in Boynton Beach often starts with one tired spouse, a condo or a quiet single-family street, and grown children who live an hour or a state away.
Boynton Beach in numbers that matter for care
Boynton Beach is a city of about 82,000 people (2025 Census estimate) in southern Palm Beach County, just north of Delray Beach. It is older than the national average: roughly 22.5 percent of residents are 65 or over. It is also one of the more diverse cities in the county. About a third of residents are Black, about 17 percent are Hispanic, and close to 30 percent were born outside the United States, according to the Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 figures.
The city grew in waves. Developments such as Leisureville, Sterling Village and Hampshire Gardens went up in the 1960s, and many of the people who bought in those decades are now the age when memory problems become common. That history shapes who calls us: often a husband or wife who has been the caregiver for months, sometimes years, before asking for help.

When a spouse is doing all of the caregiving
A spouse caregiver in Boynton Beach usually does not need someone to take over. They need someone dependable to cover the same few blocks of time each week, so they can see their own doctor, shop without worrying, swim, or simply sleep. A regular companion gives the caregiving partner that time and gives your loved one a familiar new face.
What the companion does
Conversation, a short walk, lunch, a card game or old music, medication reminders, and light tidying. A brief note to the family after every visit.
Best for: a couple at home where one partner is worn down.
What the companion does not do
Companions are not nurses. They do not give medication, change dressings or provide hands-on clinical care. They can work alongside a home health nurse or hospice team.
Best for: understanding where companion care fits.
Our page on dementia care for spouse caregivers covers the warning signs of burnout. If you are not sure how close you are to the edge, the caregiver burnout check takes a few minutes.
Grown children on Tri-Rail, I-95 or a plane
Boynton Beach has a Tri-Rail station, open since 1989, that links the city with West Palm Beach to the north and Fort Lauderdale and Miami to the south. I-95 runs straight through town. That makes it easier than in many places for an adult child in Broward or Miami-Dade to visit on a weekend. It does not make it easy to cover a Tuesday morning appointment.
A companion fills that weekday gap. They can take your parent to an appointment, wait with them, and send you a summary the same day. For siblings out of state, the same note goes to everyone. Our guide for long-distance families has more on sharing the load, and talking to siblings about dementia care helps when the family disagrees.
Caribbean, Haitian and Latin American families
In the 2020-2024 Census figures, about 38 percent of Boynton Beach residents over age 5 spoke a language other than English at home. Back in 2000, about 7.5 percent spoke French Creole. Many families here have Caribbean and Latin American roots, and a parent with dementia may fall back on the language they grew up with as English fades.
When you call, tell us which language your loved one speaks when tired or upset, and which foods, songs and church traditions matter to them. We look for a companion who fits, and we tell you plainly if we cannot find a match for a particular language. Our tips on communicating with a loved one who has dementia help any family member who visits.

Questions Boynton Beach families ask us first
- Can the same companion come every time? Yes. One consistent companion is the whole point, with a free rematch if the fit is wrong.
- Will Mom accept a stranger? Often it helps to introduce the companion as a friend or helper for the household, not as care for her.
- Can visits work around my husband’s dialysis or therapy schedule? Yes. Visits run from about two hours to a full day.
- Is anyone locked into a contract? No. You can change or cancel visits at any time.
Hurricane season in a coastal city
Homes near the Intracoastal and the ocean can fall in evacuation zones. Before June, find your loved one’s evacuation zone, decide where they would go, and consider the Florida Special Needs Registry. Our hurricane guide for dementia caregivers walks through the checklist.
