Collier families planning dementia care in Naples will find the regional agencies, support groups, seasonal realities and sample costs below.
One of Florida’s oldest counties
Collier County has about 417,000 residents, and close to 35% of them are 65 or older (Census Bureau, 2025 estimates). That’s roughly 145,000 older adults, and a share half again as high as Florida’s statewide figure of about 23%. In winter the number of older residents climbs further as seasonal homeowners return.
The Alzheimer’s Association’s 2023 county estimates put Alzheimer’s prevalence in Collier at about 12.4% of residents 65 and older. Put those two numbers side by side and you get a county where nearly every neighborhood, from Pelican Bay to Golden Gate, has families quietly managing memory loss at home.

Naples resources worth knowing
Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida
Collier is served by the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, which also covers Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota, DeSoto, Glades and Hendry counties. It is the local Aging and Disability Resource Center, where you can ask about Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative respite and caregiver support. Call (239) 652-6900 or toll-free (866) 413-5337.
The Memory Disorder Clinic is in Fort Myers
Collier doesn’t have its own state-designated Memory Disorder Clinic. The state assigns Collier to Lee Health’s memory care program in Fort Myers, (239) 343-9220. Many families also start with a neurologist through NCH (Naples Comprehensive Health) or Physicians Regional Healthcare System, two of the hospital systems serving Naples. A doctor’s referral is the usual first step.
Alzheimer’s Support Network
Naples has a local nonprofit devoted to dementia families. The Alzheimer’s Support Network, based on Pine Ridge Road, offers free support groups, education, personal counseling and referrals. Call (239) 262-8388. Families who prefer a national line can use the Alzheimer’s Association’s free Helpline, 800-272-3900; the Association’s Florida Gulf Coast Chapter covers the region from Naples north to Tampa and Lakeland.
If you’re considering an adult day center, confirm a center’s license through the Agency for Health Care Administration’s provider search, and read our adult day programs guide.

Living with dementia in Naples: storms, seasons and space
Storm surge is the real risk here. Hurricane Ian struck Southwest Florida as a Category 4 storm in September 2022, and surge in Naples topped 7 feet even before the storm made landfall farther north in Lee County. For a person with dementia, a forced evacuation is disorienting, so plan early. Find your loved one’s zone with Know Your Zone. If they need help with daily living, sign them up on the state’s Special Needs Registry and contact Collier County Emergency Management about special needs shelters, which offer basic monitoring and backup power, not hospital care. Our hurricane preparedness guide walks through a go-bag and a calm evacuation plan.
Season changes everything. Winter brings traffic on US-41 and I-75, longer waits for appointments, and visiting family. Summer is quieter but hot and stormy, and it is when a parent who stays year-round is most likely to be alone.
Heat and hydration. People with dementia often lose track of thirst and may not recognize the early signs of overheating. A companion can keep a water routine going, steer walks to early morning or an air-conditioned mall, and notice if the thermostat has been switched off to save money.
Distance. Naples is spread out, from the Gulf beaches to Golden Gate Estates and out to Immokalee. Marco Island is a bridge away. Specialist visits in Fort Myers mean a long round trip, and an appointment escort can save an adult child a full day off work.
How Naples families use Dementia Companions
Year-round parent, part-year kids
Adult children in the Midwest or Northeast often book a steady schedule and read the short note we send after each visit. See our long-distance family guide.
Spouse in a gated community
A wife caring for her husband books a few afternoons of respite each week so she can keep her own friendships and health.
After a hospital stay
Extra hours at home for a week or two after discharge, alongside any home health nurse. See care after hospital discharge.
Our rate is $35 an hour for 40+ hours a week, the same in Naples as everywhere else we serve, with no contract. To compare costs, read the Florida cost guide, our in-home vs. memory care comparison, and ways to pay.
Seasonal and year-round dementia care in Naples: what it costs
Many Naples schedules change with the calendar. A parent may need more help in summer, when friends and family have gone north, and less in season. Some typical arrangements are below. Our rate is $35/hour for 40+ hours a week; call us about shorter schedules.
| Arrangement | Schedule | Hours a week | Weekly cost | About per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Summer support for a year-round parent | Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm | 20 | Call for a quote | |
| Winter respite for a spouse | Wed and Sat, 1pm-5pm | 8 | Call for a quote | |
| Escort to Fort Myers or Naples appointments | Two 4-hour trips a week | 8 | Call for a quote | |
In practice, a summer weekday morning might start with breakfast and a medication reminder, then an early walk before the heat, a stop for groceries or the pharmacy, lunch made together, and an hour of music or photos before the companion writes a note for the family. An escort day looks different: the companion drives, handles check-in, sits with your loved one through the visit and writes down what the doctor said.
Because there is no contract, a family can run the 20-hour plan for the four summer months and drop to 8 hours in season. For comparison, CareScout’s 2025 Florida medians were about $67,320 a year for assisted living and about $146,000 for a private nursing home room.
More ways to get a break in Collier County
The Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida’s Elder HELPLINE, (866) 413-5337, screens for state programs, including Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative respite, which can be in-home, at a facility, on an emergency basis, or an extended stay of up to 30 days. Funding is limited, so get on the list early.
Just north of the county line, Senior Friendship Centers has a Bonita Springs location among its sites offering adult day services and caregiver support, (941) 955-2122. And if your loved one’s doctor participates in Medicare’s GUIDE dementia model, eligible patients can receive up to $2,500 a year in respite. A companion can cover the gaps between all of these, including weekends. See dementia respite care.
