This page walks through dementia home care in Aventura: condo logistics, language matching, sample weeks, costs and respite.
An older, multilingual, high-rise city
Aventura incorporated in 1995 and had about 40,000 residents in 2020, with a median age above 48. Most people live in high-rise condominiums around the Turnberry golf course, along Biscayne Boulevard (US-1), and on the Intracoastal. In 2000, besides English and Spanish, residents spoke Hebrew, Yiddish, Portuguese, French, Russian and German at home. That mix matters in dementia care, because people often return to their first language as the disease progresses.
When you call, tell us what language your loved one dreams in, what music they love, and which holidays they keep. We look for a companion who fits.

Walks and outings in Aventura and Sunny Isles
The Don Soffer Exercise Trail, the paved loop around Country Club Drive, is flat and familiar to many longtime residents. Founders Park next to City Hall, with its bayside section, has shade and benches. In Sunny Isles Beach, Heritage Park and the Newport Fishing Pier are easy spots for a short outing, and the city’s Gateway Center has a dedicated gathering space for seniors. Indoors, the Northeast Dade-Aventura Branch and the Sunny Isles Beach Branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System are cool, quiet places to sit with a book or newspaper.
Outings are always optional. Many visits happen at home: a game of cards, a recipe from the old country, a playlist of songs from their twenties. Our guide to music and dementia explains why that helps. On cooler winter mornings, a short walk along the Intracoastal can be a treat.
Hospital and appointments
HCA Florida Aventura Hospital on Biscayne Boulevard is the local hospital, with emergency care and neurology among its services. A companion can take your loved one to appointments there or at nearby specialists, wait with them, and send you a written note. Companions provide reminders, meals and errands, not nursing care or medication administration.
Practical notes for the northeast corner of Miami-Dade
Traffic. Biscayne Boulevard and the roads around Aventura Mall back up, especially in winter season. We try to match companions who live close by and set visit times outside peak hours.
Snowbird season. Some families need more hours when a parent is here for winter, and fewer when family is visiting. There is no contract, so you can scale up or down.
Storms. Sunny Isles Beach and the waterfront parts of Aventura are coastal. Check your loved one’s Miami-Dade evacuation zone and plan who drives them inland.
When a spouse is the caregiver
In Aventura it is common for a husband or wife in their late 70s or 80s to be caring for a partner with dementia in a two-bedroom condo, with children living in New York, Toronto, Buenos Aires or Tel Aviv. The healthy spouse often stops going to the pool, the clubhouse, or their own doctor because they do not want to leave their partner alone. A few regular hours with a companion lets them do those things again without worry. Our page on supporting spouse caregivers and our caregiver burnout check are good places to start.
Long-distance children can read our visit notes and join the monthly plan review by phone or video.
Planning a typical week of dementia home care in Aventura
Aventura schedules often follow the seasons and the family calendar. Three patterns we see:
| Plan | Schedule | Hours a week |
|---|---|---|
| Spouse keeps pool, card game and own doctor | Mon, Wed, Fri, 1pm-4pm | 9 |
| Winter season, more hours | Mon-Fri, 10am-2pm | 20 |
| Summer, family visiting | Tue and Thu, 10am-1pm | 6 |
The three-afternoon plan is the typical spouse-caregiver setup: the healthy partner gets back the activities they had dropped. In season, some families scale up to weekday visits; when children fly in for the summer, they scale down. With no contract, that flexibility costs nothing.
Our rate is $35/hour for 40+ hours a week; call us about shorter schedules. For context, CareScout’s 2025 survey put Florida’s median for a non-medical caregiver at about $73,216 a year on a 44-hour week, and for assisted living about $67,320.
Respite and memory clinics for northeast Miami-Dade
The Wien Center at Mount Sinai on Miami Beach, (305) 674-2543 ext. 55725, and the Scaduto MIND Institute at Miami Jewish Health, (305) 514-8652, are among the county’s state-designated memory disorder clinics. Either can evaluate memory changes and point you to caregiver education.
For respite funding, call the Alliance for Aging Elder Helpline, (305) 670-4357, about Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative respite, which can be in-home, facility-based, emergency, or extended up to 30 days. Also ask your loved one’s doctor about Medicare’s GUIDE dementia model, which can provide up to $2,500 a year in respite for eligible patients. The Alzheimer’s Association Helpline, 800-272-3900, uses bilingual staff or interpreters covering more than 200 languages, so ask for the language your loved one speaks.
Questions Aventura families ask us
- Can we find a caregiver who speaks Russian, Hebrew, Portuguese or Spanish?
- Will you handle the building’s guest registration and valet rules?
- Can visits increase for winter and drop for summer without penalty?
- Can the caregiver walk with Dad on the Don Soffer Exercise Trail?
- How do our children abroad stay informed?
Tell us the language your loved one is most comfortable in and we will look for a match. We take care of building access, adjust hours freely, let you watch video interviews before you decide, plan outings only with your approval, and send a note after each visit.
Before the first visit: an Aventura checklist
- Building name, management contact and any guest registration or ID rules.
- Parking or valet arrangements for the companion.
- Elevator fob, unit key and any balcony door locks or alarms.
- Medication list and doctors’ names, including any at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.
- Your loved one’s first language, favorite music, holidays and foods.
- Who in the family should receive visit notes, and in which time zone.
We use this to write a care plan, and we review it with you monthly. As needs grow, visits can lengthen, and the same companion can keep coming so your loved one is not meeting strangers at the door.
For couples, one more option is worth considering: a companion can stay with your partner while the two of you are apart for a few hours, then join you both for a walk or lunch, so time together stays enjoyable instead of becoming another caregiving task. Many spouses tell us that is the part they missed most.
If your loved one spends part of the year elsewhere, bring the care plan and visit notes along so a doctor or caregiver up north can see what has been working here.
Holidays matter too. Tell us which ones your family keeps, so the companion can help your loved one prepare and take part.
One more planning tip: keep a short written summary of your loved one’s routine, medications and doctors in the condo, in English and in their first language, so building staff, a companion or paramedics can understand it quickly. Update it after each monthly review.
