Dementia care cost calculator

Use this dementia care cost calculator to see what in-home care would cost each week and month, and how it compares with Florida facility prices.

Updated October 12, 2026

Our rate is $35 an hour for 40+ hours a week, so the weekly cost is hours per week × $35; multiply by 4.33 for a monthly figure. For example, 40 hours a week costs $1,400 weekly, about $6,062 a month. Call us about shorter schedules. Florida’s 2025 median for assisted living was about $5,610 a month (CareScout).

How the dementia care cost calculator works

  • Weekly cost = hours per visit × visits per week × $35 (our 40+ hours a week rate).
  • Monthly cost = weekly cost × 4.33, the average number of weeks in a month (52 weeks ÷ 12 months).
  • Total for your weeks = weekly cost × the number of weeks you entered, if any.
  • There are no sign-up fees, no markups and no long-term contracts. You can change hours as needs change.

Example schedule at a glance

For a quick sense of scale, here is a full-time schedule. Our rate is $35/hour for 40+ hours a week; call us about shorter schedules. Monthly figures use 4.33 weeks and are rounded to the nearest dollar.

ScheduleHours/weekWeeklyAbout monthly
5 visits × 8 hours40$1,400$6,062

At 40 hours a week, our rate comes to about $6,062 a month, above Florida’s 2025 assisted living median of about $5,610. Many families who use in-home care need fewer paid hours because a spouse or relative covers the rest of the day; call us about shorter schedules.

Where the comparison figures come from

The comparison line uses Florida medians from CareScout’s 2025 Cost of Care Survey (data collected July-November 2025):

$5,610/moassisted living, private one-bedroom (about $67,320 a year)
~$10,342/monursing home, semi-private room (about $124,100 a year)
~$12,167/monursing home, private room (about $146,000 a year)

We converted CareScout’s annual medians to monthly figures by dividing by 12. Medians are the midpoint statewide, so real prices in Naples or Miami Beach may sit well above them and prices in smaller towns may sit below. Memory care units inside assisted living communities usually charge more than standard assisted living. For a wider breakdown, see the cost of dementia care in Florida.

How Florida compares with the national median

The same CareScout release lists 2025 national medians. Florida came in lower for most types of care but higher for nursing homes:

Care type (2025 annual median)FloridaNational
Non-medical caregiver, 44 hours a week$73,216$80,080
Adult day health care, 5 days a week$19,500$24,700
Assisted living, private one-bedroom$67,320$74,400
Nursing home, semi-private room$124,100$114,975

Those caregiver figures assume 44 hours every week. Most families using the dementia care cost calculator plan far fewer paid hours, which is why the weekly total matters more than the annual median.

Reading the result frankly

Facility prices cover around-the-clock staffing, housing and meals. In-home hours cover only the time someone is with your loved one; you still pay the mortgage or rent, food and utilities. So the comparison is a starting point, not an apples-to-apples verdict. In-home care tends to cost less when your loved one needs help for part of the day and has a family member or other support for the rest. As needs grow toward 24-hour supervision, a facility can become the more affordable option. Our comparisons of in-home care vs. assisted living and in-home care vs. memory care walk through those trade-offs.

Ways families cover the cost

Dementia Companions is private-pay. Some long-term-care insurance policies reimburse companion or homemaker care, so check your policy’s benefit triggers and elimination period (how LTC insurance works). Veterans may qualify for VA benefits that help with in-home care (VA benefits), and Florida has state programs with their own eligibility rules (Florida programs).
