Service One

Companionship Visits

Loneliness and isolation are two of the most significant challenges for people living with dementia. Our companions visit regularly, building a real friendship over time, a relationship in which your loved one is known, understood, and genuinely looked forward to seeing.

Visits are built around the individual. The companion learns what lifts your loved one's spirits: which songs bring a smile, what topics spark stories, when to be lively and when to simply sit quietly together.

Families describe this service as the most transformative thing they have added to a loved one's week. Regular visits bring engagement, appetite, and better sleep, something we see in every person we support.

What this looks like in practice

  • A consistent companion, the same face every visit
  • Conversation, music, and activities your loved one genuinely enjoys
  • Gentle reminiscence and memory engagement
  • Visits tailored to mood and energy on the day
  • A brief handover note shared after every visit
Visits run 1-4 hours, 1-7 days per week, fitted around your schedule.

What we help with day-to-day

  • Gentle reminders for meals and medication
  • Light food preparation and kitchen support
  • Accompanying your loved one on local errands
  • Supporting morning or evening routines
  • Maintaining independence, not replacing it
We follow your loved one's routine, not one we impose.
Service Two

In-Home Support

Daily life at home can become gradually more challenging as dementia progresses. Our companions help with gentle reminders, light food preparation, accompanying your loved one on local errands, and supporting daily routines in a calm, familiar way.

We work to an agreed plan that reflects your loved one's existing routine, not one we impose. Small details matter: the order of the morning, the preferred cup, the way the day is structured. Our companions follow these with care, because predictability is one of the most reassuring things we can offer.

This is practical help delivered with humanity. We focus on maintaining independence and dignity rather than taking over.

Service Three

Caregiver Respite

Florida family caregivers are some of the most dedicated people we know, and some of the most exhausted. Caregiver respite for dementia is not a luxury: it is essential to sustaining your own health, your relationships, and your capacity to continue caring over the long term.

When a companion arrives for a respite session, they take over fully and attentively, not as a babysitter, but as a skilled, caring presence who knows your loved one. You have genuine time away without the constant background hum of worry.

Regular respite is often what makes caregiving sustainable. Taking care of yourself is not selfish, it is good caregiving.

How respite works

  • The same companion your loved one already knows and trusts
  • Regular fixed slots or flexible as-needed cover
  • No babysitter, a consistent, caring companion
  • You are reachable by phone at all times if needed
  • Genuine peace of mind, not just time away
We schedule around your life, not ours. Fixed half-days, flexible fortnightly, whatever works.

Activities led by the person

  • Music, listening, singing, sharing familiar melodies
  • Gardening, cookery, and gentle crafts
  • Looking through photographs and reminiscing
  • Reading aloud or listening to favourite books
  • Reminiscence led by the person, not a generic activity list
Every session is led by the person's mood and energy. Nothing is forced, nothing timetabled.
Service Four

Memory & Engagement Activities

Meaningful activity is one of the most powerful tools in dementia care, but meaningful is the operative word. Activities chosen for the person, not just for the diagnosis. Our companions draw on a person's lifetime of interests, skills, and identity.

For some people, that means music, listening to favourite records, singing along, or sharing a familiar melody. For others it is gardening, cookery, gentle crafts, looking through photographs, or reminiscing about a particular chapter of their life.

Reminiscence is a particularly powerful part of this service. Thoughtful conversation about the past can produce remarkable moments of clarity and joy. Companions follow a person's lead.

In Practice

What a typical in-home dementia care visit looks like

No two visits are identical, every person and every day is different. But here is a sense of the shape a companionship visit takes.

01

A familiar arrival

The companion arrives at a consistent time with the same warm greeting. Familiar rituals, a cup of tea, a favourite chair, signal this is a safe, known interaction. Predictability is deeply reassuring.

02

Following the person's lead

The companion reads the person's energy and mood, conversation or quiet company, lively or gentle. The care plan is a guide, not a script. If a memory surfaces and takes over, the companion follows it.

03

Activity or engagement

Whether it's a photograph album, tending the garden, a game of cards, or simply a long conversation, engagement is kept meaningful and unhurried. The companion knows when to encourage and when to simply be present.

04

A warm handover note

At the end of each visit, the companion completes a brief note, how the person seemed, what they enjoyed, any observations worth sharing. Nothing significant goes unrecorded, and family members can always request updates.

Flexibility Built In

Scheduling that works around your life

We know that care needs rarely follow a neat, predictable pattern. Visits can be arranged as frequently or as flexibly as your family requires, and adjusted easily as your needs change over time.

We build visits around your existing routine, not ours. If mornings are better, or certain days are especially important, we build that in from the start. If things change, as they often do, we change with you.

There is no minimum contract and no rigid package. The right schedule is whatever genuinely helps your family, and we will work that out together.

What support services are available for dementia at home?

At home, families usually combine companion visits (company, conversation and supervision), in-home support with routines, meals, reminders and errands, respite so the family caregiver gets regular time off, memory and engagement activities, and family guidance on next steps. All of these are non-medical; nursing and therapy come from a home health agency when a doctor orders them.

What is in-home memory care?

It means dementia-focused care in your loved one's own home rather than in a memory care facility: a consistent companion who keeps the daily routine, plans activities around their history, supervises the hours they should not be alone and notices changes. With Dementia Companions it is companion care, not medical care.

How much does in-home dementia care cost?

With Dementia Companions it is $35 an hour for 40 or more hours a week, and live-in care starts at $375 a day; call us about shorter schedules. For comparison, CareScout's 2025 survey puts the Florida median for a non-medical caregiver at $32 an hour.

Does Medicare pay for in-home dementia care?

Not for ongoing companion care. Medicare doesn't pay for 24-hour care at home or for custodial care when that's the only care someone needs. It can cover short-term home health care, like skilled nursing or therapy, when a doctor orders it and the person qualifies.

What is dementia respite care?

Respite is planned time off for the family caregiver while someone else takes over care. At home, the same companion your loved one already knows comes at regular fixed times or as needed, from a few hours a week to overnight cover, so you can work, rest or see your own doctor.
